Meet the RLPSA Board of Directors

David Johnston, Senior Director, Loss Prevention & Corporate Security, Dunkin’ Brands, Inc.

An accomplished loss prevention executive, David is in his thirtieth year serving the retail industry. Throughout his career, David has held positions as a practitioner, industry consultant and solution provider, giving him a well-rounded understanding of the industry and the partnerships that allow our industry and profession to evolve.

David currently leads the global loss prevention, security and safety initiatives as Senior Director of Loss Prevention & Corporate Security for Dunkin’ Brands, the corporate entity of two iconic brands, Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin Robbins. Supporting brands that represent more than 19,000 locations in over 60 countries, David’s experience and expertise is one of a global perspective; delivering results-driven programs to increase profitability and protecting the brands across the world.

In addition to experience and expertise in loss prevention, David has great knowledge and experience in business, organizational and program development. He also engages in areas of leadership and professional development. In addition to his involvement of the RLPSA, David is a member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), and a member of the National Retail Federation (NRF) Loss Prevention Advisory Council.

Van Carney, National Director, Safety & Loss Prevention, Domino’s

Van joined Domino’s in 1996 and prior to him being promoted to National Director; he served as the Regional Security Manager for franchisees in the East Region and also supported the Team USA corporate stores in New York and New Jersey. He was recently elected as a board member of the Restaurant Loss Prevention & Security Association and has been an active contributor to the association’s magazine, providing guidance to franchisees regarding team member safety, store security as well as loss prevention. The RLPSA has also shared his informative articles with the Domino’s Franchise Association magazine. He was the visionary in creating a program that focused on bringing law enforcement and other security practitioners together for the RLPSA, now branded RLPSA Connect. This program focuses on how to improve working relationships that positively impacted both communities and businesses. He has been instrumental in assisting franchisees with Exception Base training and is currently involved in implementing the system to our International Franchisees.

Michael Loox, CFI, Director, Loss Prevention, BLD Brands

Michael began his loss prevention and security career with the New York Yankees while earning his M.A. degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College. Upon arriving in California, Michael worked in the retail sector for U.C.L.A, Barneys New York, Gucci and Prada before taking opportunities with Z Gallerie then The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to develop and direct loss prevention, safety and security operations. Michael is currently Loss Prevention Director for BLD Brands, who own and operate Spaghetti Warehouse and Stir Crazy regional restaurant chains and are franchise operators for 120+ Hardee’s and Papa John’s in the Carolinas.

Rocco Prate, Safety & Security Manager, The Wendy’s Company

Rocco leads The Wendy’s Company (North Region) where he oversees the safety & security for 250 company restaurant locations and supports 2,285 franchise restaurants. He has over 20 years of LP & security experience working for numerous retail companies. Rocco is also a current member of the United States Army Reserve and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He currently serves on the board of the Restaurant Loss Prevention & Security Association.

Ken Gladney, CFI, Director, Loss Prevention & Security, Taco Bueno Restaurants, LP

Ken Gladney, CFI, is a results driven Loss Prevention executive with decades of experience across a diverse retail, grocery and restaurant background. His experience and expertise in working within various business environments provides him with a multi-dimensional approach to achieving great value for organizations. Currently responsible for the day to day corporate and field Loss Prevention and Security functions at Taco Bueno, Ken supports his organization through the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that brings greater profitability to his organization. Ken served our country as a U.S. Marine, honorable discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant, receiving numerous awards and commendations during his service to our country.

Ken’s diverse background and years of service provides him with the understanding of how our profession and industry continues to evolve. His personal attitude about leadership, professional development and growth of our profession, will assist him in serving the RLPSA membership, seeking to make the RLPSA a better association, focused on bringing greater value and development of the association and our membership.

Linda Zaziski, MSM CP-FS, National Director of Safety, Little Caesar Enterprises & Blue Line Distribution

Linda is the National Director of Safety at Little Caesar Enterprises and Blue Line Distribution. She has 32 years of retail/ manufacturing/distribution experience in safety, environmental safety, loss prevention, crisis management and food safety. She obtained her BS degree from Albion College (Albion MI), and MSM from Walsh College (Troy, MI). Linda is a Certified Professional in Food Safety (CP-FS), a Certified Pest Control Operator, an OSH outreach general industry instructor, and an instructor/proctor for National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), National Restaurant Association (NRA) ServSafe and American Red Cross CPR/AED/First aid.

Linda currently serves as a chief spokesperson and sits on various boards/councils of influence including the Conference for Food Protection (CFP), on the Michigan and Indiana Food Defense Advisory Committee, the National Restaurant Association (NRA) HR/Risk/Safety Executive Study Group and the Restaurant Loss Prevention and Security Association (RLPSA) Safety Advisory. She has been involved with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) – Greater Detroit Chapter; since 2011, holding various leadership positions including: Secretary/Awards and Honors/ROC Planning Chair.

Steve Longo, Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives, CAP Index

Steve Longo serves as the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at CAP Index, a privately owned company recognized as the industry leader in crime risk forecasting in the US, the UK, and Canada.

Longo oversees the company’s business development efforts, acts as primary liaison for several security industry trade groups, manages CAP’s vast reseller program and co-managing our marketing efforts. Longo has worked within the industry since 1993 and for CAP Index for over 21 years.

Longo serves on the Board of Advisors for the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC). Longo is an Advisory Member of the ASIS Banking and Financial Services Security Council. Longo also serves on the Vendor Advisory Board for Loss Prevention Magazine, and has previously served as a Board Advisor for the Restaurant Loss Prevention & Security Association (RLPSA).

Scott R. Elkins, President, UAS

Scott R. Elkins is President of UAS, a national provider of integrated security services, which protects more than $15 Billion in commercial and residential assets. Since its founding in 1972, UAS has provided various services to its clients including comprehensive security analyses as well as specific offerings including burglar and fire alarm protection and closed circuit TV (CCTV) monitoring.

Scott is a recognized security industry leader in developing successful new business models for introducing and implementing new technology products and services in the security alarm industry. Specifically, Scott created the UAS National Accounts Division from scratch and since its inception in 1989, Scott has grown the business unit substantially by leveraging its unique centralized management structure. Additionally, under Scott’s leadership, the UAS National Accounts Division has developed strategic business relationships by targeting a wide variety of vertical markets including: food service providers, convenience stores and retailers.

Additionally, Scott was a co-founder of Catavault and served on its Advisory Board.

Scott is credited with being a principal inventor of the United States Patent Number 7,155,739 entitled, “Method and system for secure registration, storage, management and linkage of personal authentication credentials data over a network.” and United States Patent Number 9,488,723
entitled, “Method and system of controlling a drive-thru operation of a quick-service restaurant.”

Scott is also very active in his local community. Scott earned a Master of Science degree in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. Scott and his family reside in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
